Fidel Castro has been in power since 1959 and is currently the world’s longest-ruling head of state. There is news that he has had intestinal surgery to address “gastrointestinal bleeding, apparently due to stress from recent public appearances in Argentina and Cuba.”
It is hard to believe that this guy is still alive, but I guess you can live a long time when you take money from the people and use it on your personal healthcare.
With Castro at deaths doorstep, the time is ripe for regime change in Cuba, and the US should be willing to act to make it happen. The question is how to support regime change without getting pulled into a nasty situation.
The answer: buyout. As soon as Castro dies, the US should spend $30 billion to bribe Raul Castro and other top Cuban officials to support free elections, promote a free market, and stay out of the new government. If we can spend $500 billion on the War on Terrorism, then we should be willing to spend a fraction of that to support a free Cuba.
That be said, I have some advice for Fidel:
Just die already!
